Home learning and Reading

In Class 3, children are responsible for choosing and changing their own reading book from a wide selection in the classroom. Please take time to read with your child every day, sign and make a comment in their reading record. Just reading two or three pages each day will help your child to make good progress in reading. If you have any questions or would like additional support please feel free to come in and have a chat. Please also ensure that your child has their book bag in school every day.

Home learning will be given out on Tuesday and will be due in the following Tuesday.  If you need help with any of the work, please come and speak to us.  There will be a home learning club during Thursday lunchtime for anybody who would like extra support or are going to have a busy weekend!  Spelling rules will be given out on Friday too; the spelling test, based on this rule, will be the following Friday.

Our Big Idea Topic this term is 'Remembrance', with a particular focus on World War 1.  Our guiding questions is 'Did anybody really win the war?'

Our class book is War Horse by Michael Morpuro.

Debating competition at Scarborough Town Hall - they were very convincing!

Asked to debate the topic, 'Should school uniform be banned?' our group of Year 5 and 6s prepared their compelling arguments. Elspeth and Alex delivered their for and against pieces with clear, concise points, backed up with their own research. When it came to the questionning, the girls batted off the opposing points without hesitation. Well done to Natalie, Bea, Edward and Angus for their intense questioning. We will move on and sort Bretix next week! Special mention goes to Elspeth for receiving the award for 'best girl' in the competition - what a super star!
